September 25, 2011 journal, Occupy Wall Street Movement are ringing Manhattan bells. This event has been basically ignored by the major media but who needs them anymore, with the Internet. Mideast nations were overturned in complete media blackout. America needs to get rid of the lying propaganda news media as much as Wall Street and the Fed. ABC News Olivia Katrandjian reports: "At least 80 people were arrested on Wall Street today in the eighth day of protests against corporations, according to the group Occupy Wall St, which reported police used tasers & mace to control the crowd today. The New York Police Department could not confirm how many arrests had been made because they were still being processed, a spokesman said. A video has circulated of a police officer throwing a protestor to the ground. The reason for the violence is unknown - the video shows the man standing in what seems to be a non-threatening manner before the attack. Another video shows police officers shoving male and female protestors off the street, and using a large orange net to move the crowd. The group claimed today on its website that several arrested protestors were locked inside a police van this morning, one with a "possibly life-threatening" concussion. The website reported at least one protestor was arrested for taking photographs. An NYPD spokesman said police were not targeting those with cameras. Photographs that did make it into the blogosphere showed signs that read, "A Few Prosper, Billions Suffer," and "Debt = Slavery." The protests began on Sept. 17, when hundreds of protestors gathered at Bowling Green Park in Manhattan, home of the iconic charging bull in New York's Financial District, as they prepared to "take the bull by the horns," as a flyer advertising the event said. "The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%," said a statement on the website Occupy Wall Street. According to statements on the website, the movement, an offshoot of online magazine AdBusters, is angered by what it calls the principle of "profit over and above all else," which it says has dominated not only America's economic policies, but also the way in which Americans view culture and humanity. Posts on the website compare the group's efforts to those used in pro-democracy movements across the Middle East, dubbed the Arab Spring. "On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months," one statement says. "Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants." As has become the norm of such protests, this movement has been fueled by social media fire, with supporters taking to Twitter under the hash tag #occupywallstreet. The major hacking group Anonymous has also thrown in its support, live streaming the day's events. "History teaches us that when the rich get too rich and the poor get too poor there is always a revolution. Let's hope this is the start of change!" wrote a reader with the username "Takebackourgovernment" on the movement's website today. ABC News' Candace Smith contributed to this report. 'OCCUPY WALL STREET' PROTESTS TURN VIOLENT; VIDEO SHOWS POLICE MACING WOMEN' Thank you ABC News!! I called today and I'm glad your article is so well written about the protest. You guys are my favorite news source!! Thanks again. Wall Street was bailed out, 99% of the citizens have been sold out. Thanks for covering! It's about time I see this story picked up from a major new source! "It's by no means complete. It doesn't even mention the lack of basis for so many of the arrests, ir the fact that women were penned in and gassed despite them doing not a thing illegal, or that someone was arrested for writing in chalk on the sidewalk (Are they going to arrest all NYC hopscotchers, too?) and on and on and on. Nor did they give any explanation for why foreign media like The Guardian have been covering the protest all week while they ignored it. SHAME! Now I guess we know how many unwarranted arrests it takes for the US press to notice a non-violent protest. (more than 100). How things have changed since the 60's and not in a good way." posted by Lindsay Smith- wow! such breaking news... Where have you been for the last week ABC Thank you for covering this. I hope to see more coverage soon. This is a powerful message that would resonate with many Americans if they could only hear it. "Thank you for your fair and balanced coverage. These crazy arrests started Tuesday..filled with police brutality. My 17 year old niece was arrested on bogus trumped up charges so she was treated as a adult and moved to 5 police locations in a 24 hour period before charges were dropped and her mother was allowed to get her. THAT'S criminal! Someone must be telling NYPD to break this protest up. They are arresting innocent people. The freedom of peaceful assembly and protest is over in NYC . The police action will only bring trouble. Please pray we do not ever see another Kent State". "Thank you so much covering this, ABC! So much of the media has been silent about the protest. We are ALL the 99%!" posted by Sheena" Thank you for covering these arrests! please provide continued coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement! "Protestors were arrested for using chalk to write on the sidewalk. Yes, this is still the USA folks, but chalk (which is temporary, last time I checked) is illegal? It must be supremely dangerous to spread ideas with chalk, ideas, after all, are scary. Hmmm, sounds unconstitutional. Hope the NY AG is prepared to get rid of that law ASAP (or the Manhattan DA better dismiss in the interest of justice). Oh my, Mike Bloomberg aka Mr. Corporate Media aka Mr. Monopoly with a Mayorship I'm sure cares about what his City is doing, right? Ha! Better not play tic-tac-toe or hopscotch on the sidewalk! Teachers use dangerous chalk everday in classrooms-BEWARE! So this is what our USA has become? What happens when chalk or ideas are spread on sidewalks, walls, or, dare I say, in the PRESS that isn't owned by billionaires, phone hacking moguls (1st Amendment anyone, RICO and FCPA violations)? or ASSEMBLIES (1st Amendment, right)? When a Nation is more afraid of its GOVERNMENT than GOVERNMENT is afraid of its PEOPLE, TYRANNY EXISTS. I read that somewhere (oh, yeah, written by people much more intelligent than today's crop of "politicians" and "leaders"). But now the media and government want sheeple who will sit down, shut up, and buy more "stuff" in-between watching "Kate + 8? and Kate Kardashian getting married. Yippee, it only took us 200 years to fall like Rome (but many of us are awake, and won't let it happen)." Thank you for investigating rather than just reposting an AP article. You readers and viewers want to know about this, let us know more! Noah. Where were these people when billions of dollars were dolled out to Wall Street crooks. These fat cats laughed all the way to their banks and rewarded themselves with bonuses for wrecking the economy. "The website reported at least one protestor was arrested for taking photographs." OMG! The hardened criminality of it all. Is that a misdemeanor or a felony? Seriously, since when is taking pictures on Wall Street illegal? "An NYPD spokesman said police were not targeting those with cameras." Nah, they just happened to be arresting people for taking photos. Totally coincidental, I'm sure. Please give us more coverage of protest". And so it begins. The wake-up of america. There will be much more of this. Shop-till- you-drop? Not any more. Eat processed and GMO food? Not any more. Run to the Dr for quick-fix drugs with scary adverse side affects? Not any more. Work 60 hour weeks to scrap by? Not any more. Where do you stand,, ABC? Susan Lee- "Thanks for covering this very important event. I live in NYC and I haven't been able to visit the protesters since Wednesday. I am so saddened by the police brutality, but I am heartened that a great newservice like ABC is giving this event national attention." Thank you for reporting the protest. There is much more to cover but at least you have started. Shame on the rest of the media for ignoring (blacking out) an important moment in American history. Finally some coverage... thanks Candace Smith and ABC for the honest coverage- the world needs to be aware of whats going on here. The rest of the media refuses to cover this week long and growing peaceful demonstration that has been met with force by the NYPD. If the people continue to stand their ground against corporate corruption & greed, this whole protest could easily become the tipping point... "Thank you ABC for reporting this. I am the mother of the minor child who has seriously medical issues who was arrested and brutalized on Tuesday. She still bears NYPD's fingerprints and bruises for peacefully protesting and doing NOTHING to deserve it. She was denied essential medications that, if not taken, could result in seizures, yet NYPD lied to me repeatedly and said she was getting her meds. She went through medication withdrawal over a 26.5 hour period, was denied food, given very little liquid, given a phone to "call home" that only dials within the 212 area code (yet her family lives outside of that area code), was lied to and told the reason she was held so long was because her "mother refused to pick her up", was transferred 5 times, including being held at Bellevue for no reason with her hands handcuffed tightly behind her back for 5 straight hours. Her family was not notified of her whereabouts for many hours, was lied to and told NYPD had no record of her at some of the locations where she was held. There are good cops and bad cops, but unfortunately some of the protesters are seeing the NYPD at its worst. There will be lawsuits and fallout for the city of New York because of this." NBMOM I personally have had a cop fired for less than what this officer did. he should be charged with assult as this guy never touched him no matter what some of these posters say."jame "Keep protesting peacefully. I am sure with the way government and law enforcement has worked t past decades you will get far. Yeah right. If you want change b down wall street. "Our american tax dollars at work to protect you and the public, our american tax dollars at work investing for solyndra, what else? ... . the retirement age is not raised above 70 yet, so we need to work harder and pay more and ones will distribute our tax dollars for us. Who said there is no free lunch?" POSTED BY: DREAM OF HOPES | SEPTEMBER "It's about time Americans finally woke up! Now maybe you all will believe me when I say America is no different than China or the former Soviet Union. Every American has the right to protest peacefully and for people to be brutalized by the NYPD is disgusting. The people who are against these protestors are either non Americans or their rich. Keep in mind you are out numbered by millions of middle class and the poor. I'm heading to the city tomorrow to join my fellow Americans, and I dare the police to arrest me for protesting peacefully. Mike" "There is only one man that will give the government back to the people, one man that would force the government to abide by our Constitution, one man that would put an end to corporate greed, and that man is Ron Paul!" Ron Paul is part of the problem, whether his propaganda admits it or not. This is a problem caused by politics and politicians, and he is a politician who has been steeped in politics. All of these criminals in Washington D.C. need to go. Political parties need to go. Obscene campaign spending funded by the rich corporate elite needs to go. My god, how many times do you need to keep going back to the same well before you realize that ALL of the water is poisoned? Doing the same thing over and over again is what got us here. Time to start thinking outside the box. We need to start electing GOOD people without political experience, because that experience is what made this mess." "Let me tell you all something. I'm sick of tired of all these morons that get into office and do nothing, but make things worse. The government belongs to the people not visa versa. Our current government wants total control of the people, and I'm not going to sit back and take it anymore. Most Americans in this country are so brain washed to believe that our government should rule us. People also don't know that if a cop assaults you for no reason, you have every right by law to defend yourself. The police brutality in this country is out of control, which is proof that this government is trying to rule with an iron fist. As long as I'm a living breathing American living in my country, I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and allow our govrnment to rule me with an iron fist. I guarantee you if Ron Paul doesn't get into office next year, and we get another moron. We will for sure have a revolution in this country." Mike Ron Paul is part of the problem? You know nothing about him then! 22% of the Americans who are unemployed are there with them!!!! And no politicians are (because to run for office means you only care about yourself and/or enriching yourself - D vs. R is merely a grand, very expensive, charade). Jefferson would be proud - this is his DEMOCRACY, this is anti-bankster action at its best. Label the protestors "hippies," engage in class warfare - it's all been done and is now revealed for the spin it is. We are there with them, PhDs, veterans who cannot find jobs in the US after fighting overseas, ex-law enforcement, ex-Wall Street, fired teachers, teachers fighting for pensions, factory workers outsourced, college kids with huge debt loads now doing "internships" at 25, etc. No, no more! Banksters got their bail outs and bonuses, CEOs and officers control DC and state legislatures through ALEC, the Chamber of Commerce, and their paid for politicians. No more. Corporations (and by that, the media only means the CEOs and officers) buy politicians and get legislatures to adopt their laws whole hog through ALEC. Well, that's UNDEMOCRATIC. So corporate worker bees get outsourced, Bill Gates and others get their H-1B visas because they own Senators, and anyone who dares fight for fellow Americans is a "class warrior" or "hippie." No, Jefferson would love this! This is true 1st Amendment stuff. PhDs, MBAs, JDs, MAs, high school degrees, doctors, lawyers, unemployed, farmers, vets, teachers, miners, etc., we are there and want our country back - now! Bring back Glass-Steagall and prosecute all those involved in the past and ongoing massive fraud that threatens our Nation; reward them all with lengthy prison sentences and forfeiture of their ill-gotten gains. And to any politician that seeks office merely to enrich himself and his cronies/family, you are everything the Founding Fathers warned us about, so don't dare cloak yourself in their ideals. We are the average American - and we are on to your game and are done toeing the line." THOMAS PAINE. "Why isn't this on TV news? Im tired of seeing protesting in other countries. When it's in our own, we don't even put out for the mainstream to see whats going on. WHY???JOSH "If this was going on in another country our news would be eating it up and we would see outrage everywhere. It's on America's front door, we see nothing about it from the news! Is it because it a Non-Violent protest not enough blood for our news to pick this up??" L. "A nice first step, ABC! Now you just need to get a camera crew out there and do some of your own live coverage!" JESSICA H | SEPTEMBER 25, 2011, 9:10 AM 9:10 AM Why isn't this on the TV news? It's called the media being controlled by the government. I live on Long Island and our newspaper Newsday had one small box on page 11 with a picture of 4 cops carrying off a protestor, and it read Busted on Wall St. Police have arrested about 80 people mostly for blocking traffic as the "Occupy Wall Street" protest enters it's 2nd week. This picture makes it look as if it's just a bunch of trouble makers. Newsday didn't have the guts to print the true story about these arrests. These protestors weren't blocking traffic, they have been trying to peacefully protest corporate greed on Wall St. and the cops are keeping them from doing so.Kudos to ABC for broadcasting the story yesterday." See what happens when you have a country full of non workers? They take up something in its place. I don't blame whomever started this, I blame corporations and politics for neglecting real issues just to satisfy or justify their own greed. A country that was so proud of its track record has now come to a boil with its young and joined the rest of the 3rd world chaos. Put 100 million kids in college and not to work and this is what you get. I guess education was one of those things Politicians should have down-played for the younger generations. But they didn't, so now they have to deal with a well educated generation while trying to pull the wool over their eyes. But I must say, for an organization of peaceful protesting, by yelling and screaming at officers to lure them into doing something wrong IS NOT PEACEFUL PROTESTING! I shall not have pity on those who lure the trouble onto themselves. Such as the guy in red shirt getting knocked to the ground by an officer, but no one mentions him hollering out derogatory remarks to that cop prior to getting slammed to the ground. The video only showed him getting thrown to the ground, but prior to that, he was in that officers face like he was a pimple waiting to get popped. This is not peaceful protesting, it is uncontrolled chaos and that is what is fueling the cops anger. Stay mad, but stay controlled. Because without control, the police are going to jump all over you like a jelly donut." EDD. Mike...The reason why these protestors are screaming and yelling at the police is because they won't allow the protestors to walk down Wall Street to protest, they have it barricaded. It's not just Wall St, the police are trying to keep them from protesting period. This is why the protestors are screaming & yelling at the police. MIKE. Thank you for reporting. This news story is strangely missing on other networks. Although it's not a pretty thought that this is happening, it IS news. Police abuse is happening right now and mostly, the reporting is being done by eyewitnesses with cell phones. Shame on those networks that don't care enough about their country to report ALL the news. GEORGINA BROWN ""On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months," one statement says." Do that and the first snowfall will end it. To REALLY make this work, you need to do it in the Spring...SEARAMBLER | SEPTEMBER 25, Mike, I know you meant that for me, weird how these post look like someone else wrote it. But I understand your point, but what they yell at the officers is what I was concerned about. And to show they are peaceful, their destiny may have been cut short, I understand. But hunker down, prove you are peaceful and move forward when the time is right. EDD. Mike, they are trying very hard to prove they are peaceful. NYPD is being ordered by our Nazi mayor to squash this protest. I called every family member who lives in other states through out the country, and everyone of them said there has been no mention of what's going on in NYC on their mainstream news. My children are going to start spreading the news in the midwest. Before you all think you still live in America the free, you need to think again. So glad it made it to national news, lets see it on ABC World News dinner-time now. Some clips of the police brutality would be nice, otherwise people will become frustrated this doesn't catch attention and tempers will flare, this country is run by the people, the politicians have forgotten this and have been helping the money instead. Wall Street needs to pay for their crashing economy and interfering with food & fuel futures. Let's just hope that these protesters understand WHY the rich continue to get richer, while the middle class is wiped out creating an ever-increasing number of poor Americans. It has zero to do with the rich not paying enough in taxes, nor could the problems be solved by simply taxing corporations more or closing tax loopholes they abuse. Read the writings of the free market, Austrian economists - F.A. Hayek, Von Mises, etc etc. It is an economic law that when an institution / central bank (the Federal Reserve) inflates / debases a nation's currency to such a radical extent as ours has, some guaranteed negative effects of such action are a vast transfer of wealth from the poor/middle class to the very rich as well as a complete wiping out of the middle class. The Austrian economists are the camp who have been right on every major economic event - upturns, downturns, panics, etc, for over 100 years. These are the economists who were able to predict the bankruptcy of our country in August of 1971, decades before Nixon declared us bankrupt. This is how they These are the economists who were able to predict the NASDAQ bubble. These are the economists who, as early as 2002/2003 were waving huge red flags, warning of a rapidly expanding real estate bubble, as well as a major financial crisis within the coming few years. These are the economists who are simply ignored by our government, even after their predictions and argumentation has been vindicated, time and time again. The monetary issue is the most important issue of our lifetimes. Money is one half of EVERY transaction. Therefore, when a cabal of bankers has a government ordained monopoly control of the issuance of money and credit, and the ability to artificially lower and raise interest rates, they are nothing more than central planners (through monetary policy), and can control the entire economy through money. It is the Federal Reserve and fiat money to blame - we MUST place blame on the correct cause. We must NOT allow government, who created the Federal Reserve, to come in on a white horse promising to 'protect' us when the dollar bubble that has been building finally bursts. The wealth inequality in this country is a *key* characteristic to our type of monetary system. I only hope that every individual protesting at Wall Street right now is aware of this, even if it's in the vaguest sense. MITCH ] Tens of thousands of people watched this protest for many days on their own computers (the media of course wouldn't cover it until the police made arrests) and we know what happened - it was peaceful for 8 days and protestors handled themselves very well. From what we saw, the NYPD and other police forces now love filming people. Given the number of police holding video cameras, this is obviously a way to intimidate people who may think about joining a peaceful protest (not merely to "gather evidence" as police will claim). Of course NYPD is big on facial recognition technology, so people who might want to exercise their 1st Amendment RIGHTS are entered in a database for whatever purpose our "watchers" deem fit. Who knows, maybe you'll be on a no-fly list if you dared raise a voice or question. Maybe NYC will blacklist you from all jobs or benefits. Funny, the people filming civilians and who ban any masks (because of some 150 year old law) sure do love concealing their own identities and fear cameras (try to film a police offcer and ask for his badge number - exercising that right will probably get you maced and arrested immediately). Well, on Oct. 31, wear masks (maybe you need NYPD's and Bloomberg's permission - kids, ask first, otherwise you might get maced and thrown to the ground). The film "V for Vendetta" had some nice masks - and shockingly, that film also seemed to be about fighting oppression. Oh my, maybe NYC and banksters and DC and all the rest need to ban that film! Danger abounds in books, films, and the Constitution! Our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves, this vision of America, coopted by the wealthy and their shills that hate dissent is despicable. Crony capitalism and its paid for politicians and other servants - you are an affront to them."
